This story started because of a line of dialogue in the Epilogue to the main summer camp story. It’s 1996 during the week where all the swingers descended on The Pines. At one point, Paul says that Mark and Christy “have a date.”

Well… what does that date look like?

Thus, the spark was lit for all the Mark and Christy stories.

Part of what attracted me to this story line was the relationship between Paul and Leah. Nick has repeatedly shown them as close, to the point of almost being as much in love as each of them is with their spouses. If that closeness has lasted for decades, then it only made sense that their spouses had grown close as well.

So the past two stories (Hanging Out and Baby Blue) were the set up to get to this point where Mark and Christy could have a date. Of course, it had to be something other than a romantic date, which meant an art date.

Then once I started writing, I realized there was another major theme here. Mark’s got a daughter who’s just old enough to make swinging possible (compared to an infant) but still at an age where she requires constant supervision. I thought it made the story stronger to show him having to work around that childcare in order to have his fun.

In the process, Nick and I extensively discussed what choices Mark, Paul, and others would make about parenting. We decided they’d be different than their parents had made, though writing those discussions within the constraints of Patreon and Amazon was a bit tricky (which is why there’s a director’s cut on Bookapy and Smashwords).

I also wanted to actually have an orgy scene, which this part includes. Those are fun to imagine and write, though the choreography is often tricky to track. Still, I’m pretty happy with it.

Finally, I wanted to end this with Christy and Mark talking art instead of fooling around. I figured it’d be a fun constraint and I hope the scene pulls the whole story together. I hope you enjoyed it.
